How you recognise it
A push button wired to a universal input (UI) of a bus module behaves as if it were pressed when nobody touches it:
- A single press shows as a long press, so a smart rule for a short press does not react to it
- A few fast presses show as a series of short presses that ends with a long press
- The activity of the button shows 2 or 3 changes for one press
- The button shows Push button was pressed for more than 1 minute
- With Support Long Press switched off, each press counts once, but only when the button is released
Cause
The input is active while the button is not pressed. To the module the button is pressed all the time, and pressing it opens the input. Typical reasons are a normally closed (NC) button, the normally closed contact of a changeover button, or wiring that keeps the input active. When the person releases the button, the input is active again, and after the Longpress duration the module reports a long press. Switching long press off only hides the problem: every press then fires on release, and long press, double click and triple click cannot be used.
Solution
Step 1: Check the button and its wiring
Service installation partner
- Is the button normally open (NO) or normally closed (NC)?
- On a changeover button, which contact is wired to the input?
- Does a shared conductor connect several inputs of the module?
Step 2: Rewire the button to the normally open contact
Service installation partner
This is the recommended fix when the button has a normally open contact. The input is then active only while the button is pressed.
Step 3: Or negate the input in TapHome
Service installation partner
In the appSettings → Hardware
If the button must stay normally closed, open Settings → Hardware, open the bus module and the push button on that input, and in its service settings switch on Negate state. Repeat it for every push button with the problem.
Do not combine both fixes. After rewiring to the normally open contact keep Negate state off, otherwise the button is pressed at rest again.
Step 4: Switch long press back on
Service installation partner
If you switched Support Long Press off as a workaround, switch it on again on the buttons whose smart rules use a long press.
If it still does not work
- Press and hold the button for a few seconds: the activity should show one long press while you hold it, not after you release it
- If Push button was pressed for more than 1 minute appears again while nobody presses the button, the input is still active at rest
- If several buttons on one module change at the same moment, check a shared conductor
- Contact TapHome support
