Email automated exports: monthly meter reports for tenants, owners and maintenance
Let TapHome send each automated export by email on its schedule, as an XLSX or CSV attachment, to recipients set per export, so tenants, the owner and maintenance get monthly or daily electricity consumption without reading meters by hand.
Why and how you would use it
Many sites with several tenants measure electricity per unit: shops, offices, workshops or flats on one site, each with its own meter, often with solar panels on the roof. Every month someone needs the numbers: the owner to re-bill the energy, each tenant to see their own consumption and maintenance to spot unusual use.
A typical case: a site with around thirty electricity meters and solar panels, where once a month a person walks from meter to meter and writes the readings into a notebook. When the meters are connected to TapHome, their values are already in the control unit, and TapHome automated exports can turn them into a monthly or daily table. What is missing is the last step: the table does not reach the people who need it on its own.
Today an export is a file at a web address. Google Sheets or desktop Excel can load it and the TapHome app can download it, but someone still has to open it and pass it on. This idea would let TapHome email the export itself, to recipients chosen for each export.
| Today | With this idea | |
|---|---|---|
| Monthly report | Download from a link | Arrives by email |
| Recipients | Whoever has the link | Set per export |
| Tenant’s own data | Shared spreadsheet | Own email |
What will be possible
The email would become part of the export settings you already know: data columns, sampling interval, export range and the generation schedule.
- Recipients per export. One or more email addresses for each export, so a tenant receives only the meters of their unit, while the owner and maintenance receive the whole site.
- The file as an attachment. The export would arrive as an attachment in a format you choose, for example XLSX for Excel or CSV.
- Sent on the export’s schedule. When the export is generated, for example every month on the 1st at 00:00, the email would go out with it.
- Monthly and daily consumption. The same settings as today: a sampling interval of 1 day gives one row per day, an interval of 1 month one row per month, for the meters of each unit as well as a meter that measures solar production.
What will not be possible
- Invoices and prices. The export would carry measured values, not invoices, tariffs or the cost per tenant. Prices would still be calculated in the spreadsheet or in billing software.
- Meters that TapHome does not read. Only devices connected to TapHome can be exported. A meter that is read only by eye has to be connected first, for example an electricity meter with Modbus.
- History from before the statistics were enabled. TapHome turns on the statistics an export needs when you save it. Values from before that cannot be calculated later.
- A guaranteed record for billing. Without internet the control unit keeps data for several hours, and after a longer outage older data is dropped. For critical data the documentation recommends an additional way of collecting it.
- More than 100 000 rows. The row limit of an export would stay the same.
How to solve it today
- One export per recipient. Create an export for each tenant with only their meters, a sampling interval of 1 day or 1 month and generation every month, see Automated exports.
- A shared spreadsheet that updates itself. Load the CSV address of the export into a Google Sheets file with the IMPORTDATA formula and share the file with the tenant, or load the XLSX address into desktop Excel with Power Query. The data then updates in the background without anyone sending it.
- Download from the app. The TapHome app downloads the latest report, or a report for a time range you choose, and you send it on yourself.
- Electricity meters with Modbus. Connect the meters to TapHome, for example Eastron SDM electric meters for single-phase and three-phase circuits, or the three-phase electric meter Orno OR-WE-517 with MID certification.

- Eastron SDM630 on the TapHome compatibility list, a three-phase meter connected over Modbus.
