Electricity meter groups in the app: live power flow, energy per period and a breakdown by meter

A clearer view of an electricity meter group in the TapHome app: live power and how it splits between the meters of the group, energy for a day, week, month or year compared with the previous period, and the share of each meter and of unmetered energy.

Electricity meter of a whole house in the TapHome app, Now tab: live power 2.02 kW, energy today, this month and this year, a power flow into the heat pump, kitchen, ground floor, upstairs, wallbox and unmetered energy, and the list of devices
Day tab of a whole-house electricity meter: 21.8 kWh so far today, 49% less than yesterday at the same time, hourly stacked bars by sub-meter with unmetered energy in gray, and the breakdown below
Month tab of a whole-house electricity meter: energy per day in October split by sub-meters as stacked bars, a ring with shares and a list sorted from the largest, heat pump first and wallbox second

A draft of the new view for a whole-house meter group: live power with its flow into the meters of the group, energy so far today by the hour, and October by days. The numbers in the pictures are examples.

Why and how you would use it

A group of electricity meters adds up the meters under it, for example a heat pump, a kitchen, a wallbox and the meters of each floor. It is the natural place to see where the energy of a house goes. Today its detail does not show that. The biggest number is the total reading since installation, in MWh, and the live power comes second, without saying which meter makes it up. The chart is called “Sum/Integral for 15 minutes”, climbs in 15-minute steps and cannot be switched to a day, a month or a year. The meters of the group appear as tiles that again show their readings since installation, and none of them shows its share of the whole.

A typical case: a family with a heat pump and a wallbox gets a higher bill in October. They want to see which nights the car was charging and how big a share the heat pump took. Today the installer exports the readings into a spreadsheet and works it out there. With the Month tab above, the wallbox nights stand out in green and the list shows the share of each meter.

What will be possible

We are evaluating this idea. Nothing below is scheduled yet, and the details may still change.

  • One row of tabs. Now, Day, Week, Month and Year, one tap each. Arrows go back in time and one tap returns to the current period.
  • Now shows power and where it goes. The main number is the power of the group right now, with energy today, this month and this year below it. A diagram shows how the power splits between the meters of the group, always in the same order, so the picture does not jump around as values change.
  • Energy for a period, with a comparison. Day by hours, Week and Month by days, Year by months. One sentence compares it with the previous period at the same point in time, for example today until 16:35 against yesterday until 16:35.
  • Breakdown by meter. Stacked bars, a ring with shares and a list sorted from the largest, with the full name, the value and the share in percent. Each meter keeps one color in every chart.
  • Unmetered energy in the same picture. When the group is measured by a main meter, the energy that none of its sub-meters measures appears in gray as its own item.
  • One level at a time. A group can contain other groups. Tapping one opens the same view one level down, with the path at the top and its share of the level above.
  • A single meter does not get worse. A meter that is not a group gets the same tabs, with a power chart for today and plain bars for each period.
  • The total reading stays. It moves to a Total energy row at the bottom, for comparing with the utility meter.

What will not be possible

  • Solar production and export to the grid. Negative power and energy sent to the grid are a separate topic and would fit an energy balance view of their own.
  • Phases L1, L2 and L3. A breakdown by phase is a different question than a breakdown by appliance or room, and it is not part of this idea.
  • Cost for the period. The view shows energy, not money. You can calculate the cost today, see below.
  • Energy that nobody measures. The view shows only what the meters measure. Consumption outside the sub-meters can be shown as one unmetered item, not split further.
  • Several levels in one diagram. The diagram shows one level, so it stays readable on a phone. Deeper levels open with a tap.

How to solve it today

  • Meter groups and their meters. A group of electricity meters adds up its meters, and its detail has a Devices section, where you open each of them. See Version 2026.1.
  • Unmetered energy as a device. In version 2026.1, the Untracked remainder meter takes a meter with sub-meters and shows the difference between it and the sum of its sub-meters, as power and as energy.
  • Energy per period in a spreadsheet. Automated exports export device values with a sampling interval of your choice, ready for Google Sheets or Microsoft Excel.
  • Cost. A Formula smart rule can multiply consumption by the price per kWh, see Calculating electricity costs.

How it could look

Ground floor group one level below the whole house, Week tab: 13.7 kWh this week, 12% of the house energy, daily bars and a breakdown into sockets, ventilation and lights
Heat pump meter without sub-meters, Now tab: live power 794 W, energy today, in October and in 2026, its share of the whole house and a power chart for today

One level down, the Ground floor group shows this week with the path back to the whole house and its share of the house. A single meter, such as the heat pump, shows power right now, energy today, this month and this year, and a power chart for today.
